Ethan's final honors assembly of the year was so exciting! We got there late, but just in time for him to be awarded his Honor Roll certificate. Then came the awards for the Accelerated Reader awards. Ethan and one of his best friends were the last two to get their awards.
On our way up there, the tarp on our camping stuff came loose. (So much for keeping stuff dry!) We pulled off the side of the road and I see a cop pull over behind us. I thought, "Oh this is a nice way to start our rainy camping trip..." We'll I shouldn't have spoken so soon. Nathan ended up knowing him from work, and aside from telling us we were crazy for going camping in this weather, he was very helpful. (I thought this documentation was rather creative of me. Do you see how I took it on the sly?)
Well- the closer we got to the campground, the lighter the rain became. When we got there it had stopped all together. We quick made dinner (although the do have a really nice restaurant in the park right on the lake!!) and got things set up. It never rained another drop while we were there. Once in the park, we either hiked, biked, or ran as our mode of transportation. On our first bike ride that night, we almost ran into 4 deer that ran right in front of us!
Of course all good things end up with at least one battle...
Yes- that is Ethan sitting on top of a crying Saroya....
Ethan wanted his trail to be to the beach, so we rode our bikes there. It was a very windy day because another storm was on it's way in, but it was fun to stand in wind that strong (for a few minutes!!)
When we got back, we decided we had better head for home because we didn't want to get caught in the storm. As we were leaving the park, I looked up on a hill. Don't you think that "A" is a sign meaning we HAVE to go back? :)
You know it was a good get-away when they crash out a half an hour after walking through the door, like this...Oh- I almost forgot a few show pictures from the school production that Ethan was in. He remembered all his lines and he did great even though he was nervous. Yea ETHAN!
OH man! This little girls socks took me WAAAAYYYYY back! So Cute! (I love that she is on her toes to reach the mic)

She's baaack! YEA! What a great way to jump back in!. The whole Tom thing is funny.
I want to hear Saroya's story! Maybe she can bring it here or you should record her reading it for your blog. :)
I love the cheering that Ethan got. So awesome to be the recipient of that praise. Love the camping pictures especially the car mirror and the black and whites on the beach (which are framers for sure!!!!)
Don't forget to come back soon!
Oh, I forgot- Ethan looks so cute in that play (don't tell him I said "cute" though.)
And oh my those socks take me WAY back too! Donuts!!
Yippee! A new post by Holly!
Okay...huge congratulations to Ethan! He's a reader after my own heart. (I won a thesaurus once, for reading). The best part is that you screamed, out loud, when you found out!
Not only is Ethan a reader, but Saroya's an author!
Oh, and Jaleigh can sing the Firecracker Song!
Good idea, camping on the fly like that. Nathan mentioned it to Dan...who's a sucker for camping but we just never do it. NO good reason.
Blog some more!
Oh man, I used to love end of the year assemblies! What fun! Your family is always an inspiration to me about being together and having fun!
Oh yeah, could you post Saroya's story? I'd LOVE to read it! It sounds super cool.
So good to have you back blogging. I keep checking for new pictures and stories, but I know how busy and envolved you've been.
Loved your post - As Always.
We've been up to date otherwise, with the events you've mentioned here, but it's nice to review them with your commentary.
(Way to go kids, we so enjoy your accomplishments! Thanks for sharing again.)
Oh my goodness! I got teary watching Ethan get his award! Was it pride for my niece the author an my nephew the reader or was it that my long lost sister is blogging again? Hopefully this means that life has calmed a bit for you! It never calms down completely though does it? And when it does you go off and do something amazing like head off to a campsite in the rain and when you get there it's beautiful! OH you brought back memories of my honeymoon! We went to Ludington State park for a day. I hope you find more time to post!
Awesome, awesome, awesome. As usual Aidan says 'hi' and when he saw Ethan get the award he clapped right along with everybody else. You have to post Saroya reading the story. I think Aidan would love it. Tell the kids congrats from Kansas
I think it is great that you take the time to make all those neat memories. Is it possible to get spoiled with so many fun beautiful places to go! I don't think so.
Yea Ethan! I love to read too.
We want to hear your story Saroya when we are there so don't let us forget.
