Project 1

My Mom & Dad came over for dinner on Sunday. After dinner mom made cookies and played with the kids while my dad taught me a little about how to use Photoshop. When my parents left, my dad gave me an assignment to work on. It has been a fun and frustrating experience! This is my first try. Super simple, but babysteps....

I'm really jealous that you got the Photoshop! I wish I had one!

It's a great first start. Well, any photo or scrapbook page would be great if Miss J is in it!

What did you do to it Hol? It's a great picture! We hear that Saroya got her hair cut again, let's see pictures!

Love it! Photoshop is great, eh? I have an older version (6.0) but I still use it on almost every picture.

(Did you get a Speedlite yet? That's my favorite purchase by far.)

Oh- Rachel! Tell me more! I have so much I want to get for my camera now, I just need to know where to start. Do you have a Cannon Rebel? I see that they have speedlights for Nikons too. AHH new lenses or flashes?? I would love to hear what you think!

Also- I have photoshop 6.0 & 4.0 bundle. I would love to hear your favorite features with that too! (Um- can you just come back and stay over all day enlightening me??)

Nice picture of Miss J. Very cute. That would be a nice one to hang on the bathroom wall! I too would like to know what things you did to it. Maybe post the original too so we can see the difference?

Actually Holly, I have a Nikon, too. It's not an SLR, but it still has a hotshoe so I can use a speedlight. I have an SB400, which is the bottom of the barrel, but they also have the SB600 and the SB800. The best part about it is that it swivels so you can bounce the flash off the ceiling. That way the light isn't so harsh.

My camera doesn't take external lenses, so I know nothing about that. So much fun, though. I wish I could come up there and get some tips from you!

VERY COOL! There are a ton of website s out there with tips and tricks for Photoshop elements (especially the new version). It looks like it has some really sweet new features. Here are some video tutorials that will walk you through some initial things you might want to play around with...

WOW!! Holly, you are headed for stardom! You are so talented. I've been away for quite awhile working with teething and getting a new mortgage. Can't wait to get back on the Avery Train.

Hol, I like the photo very much. Please give Nikki an assignment so she can use the Photoshop I bought her :)

Well Hol, your first assignment turned out nicely. As Nik has suggested, we need to see the "before" to know how you accomplished the assignment. (and it would be a great shot for bathroom decor).
I figure that the text wasn't on the original photo, and I'm guessing that the background was blurred to focus attention to the face, especially the eyes, because you have wanted to accomplish that thru the lens. You probably did some global adjusting of the contrast through Levels, and of course, desaturated or converted to black & white.
There ARE lots of tutorials and tips websites out there and you can benefit from them, maybe you can share some things you learn with me, too (and Nik - I didn't know she had photoshop also)

If there was anyone for whom PhotoShop cannot make much of an improvement, it's Jaleigh! She is beautiful. (It's in the family!).

Can we see the rest of your projects? And if I ever get the time to try my hand at photography, will you be tutor? :)

Sorry- I can't show you the original because it would expose Miss J too much!! :)(Plus you would realize I didn't do too mcuh!!) I am so excited about all the good advice and links here! I hope to continue to learn more about my camera AND photoshop. Thanks for all the encouragement!
